Fåk

In the flat, wide-open landscape of Öland, there is little protection when a snowstorm surges. The local name for this now-rare phenomenon is fåk. This winter, however, brought a few weeks of snow and strong winds, creating fåk. Most bird species migrate far south at this time of year, but some stayed behind and defied the cold.
